Cabinet Installation Done Right? Check These 7 Points – No One Can Fool You
Beautiful designs mean nothing if installation falls short.
There's a hard truth in custom cabinetry: 30% design, 70% installation.
On installation day, grab this checklist. Check every item. Don't sign off until it's right.
1. Feel the Flatness
Run your palm across the seam between two cabinet doors. No uneven edges – that's the standard.

2. Check the Gaps
All door gaps must be perfectly even from top to bottom. Uneven means poor leveling.
3. Check Vertical Alignment
Tall doors should be perfectly straight when viewed from the side. A curve means they'll eventually fail to close.

4. Test the Hardware
Open each door to 45° and let go – it should close slowly on its own (that's the soft-close damping). Every hinge must have all screws fully tightened. Missing screws mean sagging doors within two years.
5. Inspect the Edges
Run your fingers along panel edges – smooth, no chips or rough spots. Poor edge-sealing leads to swelling when moisture hits.
6. Pull the Drawers
Slide every drawer in and out – smooth and jam‑free. For push‑to‑open systems, press once to pop open, press again to close. Test each three times.

7. Check the Caulking
The sealant between cabinets and walls must be neat, straight, and even. Wavy, crooked lines? Ask for a redo.
If any of these 7 points fails, hold off on signing off.
